ABKO Screw Machines, Ltd.

HISTORY

Original owners, Thomas J. Bindas and Gerald R. Kaboskey purchased the then Robinson Machine Company in Racine, Wisconsin in September of 1972 and formed the new corporation presently known as ABKO Screw Machines, Ltd.

Both owners were employees of Allen-Bradley Co. in Milwaukee, working in the automatic screw machine department. They continued full-time employment there while operating ABKO on a part-time basis, one working mornings while the other worked evenings, thus maintaining a strong 8 to 10 hour production day.

In 1973, the company purchased it’s present location and moved all operations. In August, 1977, after completing the first expansion of 4800 sq. ft. to the original building, Jerry Kaboskey terminated his full-time employment at A-B, putting all efforts towards ABKO. In January, 1978, Tom Bindas also terminated his full-time employment at A-B. They hired their first full-time employees and a part-time secretary. Two are presently still employed and key personnel and the secretary retired in June, 1998 after 20 yrs and 9 months of employment.

In 1980, the company entered into a major contract with the then owners of Outers Lab, manufacturing their gun cleaning products, employing nearly 40 people and adding another 6000 sq. ft. to the existing building. This contract lasted through 1984 and a new direction for the business was founded. The first CNC lathe was purchased, adding a new line of product type production to the automatic screw machine line. Tom’s brother Ron took to the road as the company’s Sales Representative.

In 1986, Tom purchased all shares of the corporation, becoming the sole owner of ABKO Screw Machines, Ltd. In February,1988 Tom’s former partner past away at the young age of 51. Also that year, additional CNC machinery was added, now including CNC machining centers. In 1990, 1992 and 1994 more were purchased. Employment leveled to an average of 12 – 14 employees which remains the same at present. Computers and computer related equipment was added to make ABKO a very modern and up-to-date machine shop with the state-of-the-art equipment that prides itself of QUALITY machined parts for QUALITY customers. Loyal employees maintain that QUALITY RATING among our customers.

ABKO Screw Machines, Ltd. continues to machine parts for a number of the original firms since 1972. Over the years and because of the addition of the CNC equipment, ABKO has added what management feels are Cadillac accounts whose products require closer tolerances and better finishes for their parts. If you have requirements that fall into the machine capacities on the FACILITIES LIST, feel free to submit them for quotation. We invite your questions and look forward your input to our web-site.
